The Flea

The Flea, is a poem written by John Donne. The poem is based on a speaker who is trying to convince his beloved to have sex with him. In the poem, a flea had taken blood from both the speaker whose is betrayed as the boy and his beloved who is the girl. Since the blood of the boy and girl is in the flea, the speaker thought it would be clever to mislead the girl, by suggesting to his beloved, that the blood in the flea has mingled and mixed and now has made them as one. The boy goes on to explain, that with the flea bite that there is no sin or shame if they was to have sex, because they are now both parts of a whole.  The girl goes on to say she will kill the flea. The boy pleads with her to spare the three lives: his, hers, and the flea.  The boy tries to suggest the ideal to his beloved that they are now married or mated by the exchanging of blood, and that the flea signifies there home and there bed. The boy tells the girl that in killing the flea, she would commit three sins by killing each the flea, the boy and girl herself.   The girl goes ahead and kills the flea, even at the boy’s great protest.  In the end the boys try’s to make it as if having sex with him would be no bigger than killing the tiny, little flea, and that no honor would be lost. His lover appears to be unshaken from her stand on having no sex, and leaves me to believe that they never engaged in the sexual act.

Romeo and Juliet

Romeo and Juliet is the epic love story that ends in tragedy.  This particular Romeo and Juliet were very different from the original plays or movies in the past. This movie is a modern portrayal of the classic work of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Instead of seeing sword fights and castles, the movie replaces it with gun fights and car chases. This film is very fun and enjoyable by the way the movie integrated different types of music and sound effects to the motion picture.  This movie also had a long list of recognizable actors. With all of this great acting, it made it that much more enjoyable to watch this film. Without Shakespeare, theses great actors would probably wouldn’t be the talent they are today.  Romeo and Juliet had all the components that make up a great movie. The film consists of drama, action, Romance, and death. There were a bunch of memorial acts I loved, but there is one particular that stands out the most. This might make me look evil, but my favorite act is when Romeo commits suicide over Juliet. This truly shows you the love and devotion Romeo had for Juliet. Romeo and Juliet will go down as one of the greatest love stories, this world has ever witnessed.

Hamlet

Hamlet is unlike any story I have ever read. Hamlet is by far Shakespeare's longest and most powerful play he had ever written. Hamlet has been acted out on hundreds of the theaters and has produced dozens of motion picture films. Hamlet is a tragedy with an end that will leave you absolutely breathless. The main plot of this story is Hamlet trying to seek revenge for his father’s death. In doing this, Hamlet stumbles into many conflicts.  Along this journey Hamlet falls in love, becomes crazy, commits murder, and falls to his death. Hamlet in the story is not only try to set his father’s sprite free, but ultimately his own.  I admire Hamlet a lot throughout this play. Hamlet is very clever and wise, with that being said, that brings me to my favorite part in Hamlet. My favorite act is when Hamlet takes the letter that was being sent to England and switches the name to Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, the letter was addressed to England, explaining how Hamlet is to receive the death penalty. This shows me how intelligent Hamlet truly was. Even though Hamlet had fallen victim at the end of the play, his spirit will live on though the plays and movies we produce.

Shakespeare

Shakespeare, would this world be the same without him? Shakespeare, one of greatest writers this world had ever witnessed. Shakespeare had not only set an example of how literature should be written, but he also set the bar. If we didn’t have Shakespeare, this world would miss out on forty captivating plays that we have all grown to love. Not only would we miss out on those plays, we would lose around two hundred and fifty great movies and shows based upon his work. You may stumble onto his great stories and notice how difficult some may be to read and interpret.  Instead of bashing him, we should thank Shakespeare, for he took the old English and made it a whole lot easier for some to digest. This man has also given us over 1700 words in our vocabulary, which we use regularly in today’s world. Even though Shakespeare had died long ago, his spirit will be lived in all that we read, write, and watch.  He took me through an epic love story in Romeo and Juliet, put me on the edge of my seat with Hamlet, and still captivates thousands with his plays, quotes, and ideas today. His creative mind inspires us all still to this day.
